‘Solitude’ is a very personal album to me. I began work on these pieces back in late 2019, a time that was particularly difficult for me due to various factors. The only way I felt I could counteract this was through the art of creation. It became apparent that negative emotions can often equate to positive catalysts in the creative process.

As an instrumental composer primarily, conveying emotions proved difficult without lyrical content, but relating the titles of these pieces to what I was going through was a good starting point. Whether the music itself reflects this is up for debate from piece to piece.

The soundscapes presented on this album were created using a variety of experimental recording methods, as well as considerable amounts of post-editing. A lot of samples (rain, water, birds, percussion etc) were captured by myself and stretched and distorted in some way. Whatever the method or technique, each resulted in some form of audible soundscape which you will find on this album.

The Decayed Sound Vessels ‘suite’ consists entirely of solo performances on two broken instruments: an autoharp and a toy piano. Both of these instruments possess unique characteristics because they are broken beyond their original means. I did minimal post editing on these tracks too.

I have also included two bonus tracks on the physical release which were to feature on an earlier album of mine back in 2015, but the album never came to fruition, so they have found a forever home on this album.
